North Hennepin Community College offers 1 nutrition credential, a transfer degree that does not lead to RD/RDN eligibility:
- Associate of Science, Nutrition (60 credits, designed for transfer)
Program Tracks Overview
| Program | Est. Tuition | Est. Duration | Credit Hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| A.S. Nutrition | $15,122 all-in on campus; $13,622 without course materials (derived) | 4 semesters full-time | 60 |
North Hennepin has no ACEND program of any kind, and the college’s own roadmap says a student must continue to a bachelor’s and a master’s to become a registered dietitian. The A.S. is a low-cost first two years that transfers into a bachelor’s in nutrition, food science, or an allied health field.
Minnesota currently lists no ACEND dietetic technician program either, so a community college technician route does not exist in the state’s directory.

Associate of Science, Nutrition
The estimated cost of the A.S. in Nutrition at North Hennepin is $15,122.40 on campus (60 credits at $252.04), or $13,622.40 without the $25 per credit course-materials charge (derived). The degree is 60 credits over four semesters full-time, and the 2026-27 one-year cost is $7,561 all-in.
A.S. Curriculum
The 60 credits are a 9-credit nutrition core (nutrition, socio-cultural aspects of nutrition, and life cycle nutrition), 8 credits of sciences chosen from anatomy and physiology and chemistry courses to fit the transfer school, 7 credits of electives, and 36 credits of general education that include general chemistry, biology, microbiology, psychology, sociology, and mathematics. Two of the core courses alternate years, one in odd years and one in even.
A.S. Admissions and Transfer
- Admission is open enrollment, with a $20 application fee; students who do not place into college algebra need an extra math sequence
- Graduation needs a 2.0 GPA, at least 15 credits and half the career-specific courses at North Hennepin, and completion within four years
- Minnesota State Mankato is the only transfer partner the college names; agreement downloads returned errors, and no agreement with St. Catherine, the University of Minnesota, or Winona State was found
You Should Know
One chemistry course is 5 credits on the program page and 4 on the roadmap, which would make the total 61 for a student who takes it. Mankato’s own page calls its master’s accredited, while ACEND’s directory lists that graduate program as a candidate, and ACEND’s 2024 decisions list Mankato’s didactic program as voluntarily closing effective September 1, 2025. A North Hennepin graduate planning to transfer there should verify the route with Mankato.
Tuition
North Hennepin’s 2026-27 on-campus rate is $203.64 per credit in tuition and $252.04 per credit all-in, which reconstructs from technology $11.14, parking and security $3.26, student life $6.14, LeadMN $0.61, student health $2.25, and course materials $25.00. The fee table appears to apply one rate to residents and non-residents, and no program differential was found.
- Fully online credits are $262.22 each, from $217.08 in tuition, with no parking charge
- The college’s cost-of-attendance table lists $3,406 a term at 15 credits, which excludes the $25 course-materials charge and lists books separately at $750
- The North Star Promise covers tuition and eligible fees for Minnesota residents with income of $80,000 or less, up to 60 credits, and excludes books and materials
Be aware that:
Minnesota State approved an average 6.25% undergraduate increase for the following year, and the college’s own fee sheet is the authority. Official figures are on North Hennepin’s college costs page.
Why Choose This Nutrition Program?
Best suited to students in the north Minneapolis suburbs who want a low-cost start on a nutrition bachelor’s and can plan the transfer early.
If you know your transfer school, the science and elective choices can be tailored to its prerequisites, so confirm each course with an advisor first. If you want the dietitian credential, treat this as the first step only: the bachelor’s, a master’s, and supervised practice all come later, and the transfer partner’s own accreditation status should be checked.
If cost is the constraint, the college’s two-year cost is about $13,600 to $15,100, and the North Star Promise may cover tuition for eligible residents.
Accreditation
North Hennepin is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, which matters for transfer credit, graduate admission, and federal financial aid.
The A.S. has no programmatic accreditation, and the college makes no ACEND claim. ACEND’s live directory for Minnesota lists nine programs and none from North Hennepin, and it lists no dietetic technician program in the state. Archived copies of ACEND’s 2019 through 2026 decisions pages and of its Programs Under Review page contain no North Hennepin entry, and the only former Minnesota technician program, at Normandale Community College, closed effective September 1, 2021.
A graduate of the A.S. holds a transferable associate degree and is not eligible for the CDR exam or the technician exam on that basis.
