Which San Francisco Bay Area Nutrition Program Fits You
Choose UC Berkeley if you want one program that carries you to exam eligibility from any undergraduate major and you can accept ACEND candidate status. Its 66-credit master’s runs 21 months in a single cohort of about 20, with a research capstone and at least 1,100 supervised-practice hours in the Bay Area.
Choose San Francisco State if you hold a DPD verification statement, from any school, and want a short internship in the city. It runs 11 months with a prior graduate degree or 18 months alongside SFSU’s own M.A., and takes up to 14 interns a year.
Choose San Jose State if you plan to stay in its own bachelor’s or master’s pipeline. Its internship states that it is not a combined M.S./DI, admits only applicants connected to SJSU’s department, and takes at most 25 interns a year in two cycles.
Choose Merritt College if you want a low-cost start in dietetics at a California community college, either as a technician working under a registered dietitian or as a transfer step toward a bachelor’s. Berkeley is the only school that bundles coursework, supervised practice, and the graduate degree in one program, and it is also the only one at candidate status. At San Francisco State and San Jose State, the bachelor’s DPD leads to the credential only with a graduate degree and an internship. Merritt College’s programs lead to the technician credential, DTR, not the RD.
